There are Z-Wave devices for lighting, appliances, thermostats, actuators and a whole range of different sensors. These devices are attractively priced and you may have customers that already have some Z-Wave devices in their home.

We have partnered with Mi Casa Verde and their Vera Z-Wave to Ethernet gateway to provide this Control4 integration. Now it is possible to include the world of Z-Wave devices as part of a Control4 installation.

SONOS INTRODUCES SONOS CONTROLLER FOR ANDROID

Wireless Music System for Android Provides Unlimited Music, Incredible Control and Amazing Sound in Every Room

London, UK – February 10, 2011 – Sonos, the leading developer of wireless multi-room music systems for the home, today introduced the Sonos Controller for Android, a free app that transforms most Android smartphones into a wireless music controller for the award-winning Sonos Multi-Room Music System. The Sonos Controller for Android, available in March April as a free download from Android Market, will make its public debut next week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. To watch a video introduction of the Sonos Controller for Android, please visit www.sonos.com/android.

With the award-winning Sonos S5 in any room and an Android phone in hand, music lovers will enjoy an unmatched wireless music experience in the home. You’ll be able to access and play a multitude of music and playlists from the Internet to your personal music library – all throughout the home, wirelessly. And with the free Sonos Controller for Android app, you can control all your music in every room instantly, all from the palm of your hand. In addition, the Sonos Controller for Android features Sonos’ latest innovation in the home music experience – music voice search – allowing users to find any artist, album or track by simply speaking into the phone.

“Sonos’ mission is to fill every home with music,” said John MacFarlane, CEO, Sonos, Inc. “We are thrilled to bring the joy of music to the homes of Android fans, worldwide.”

To enjoy music in any or every room of the home, all you need is a Sonos ZonePlayer and a Sonos Controller such as the free Sonos Controller for Android. The most popular Sonos ZonePlayer is the Sonos S5, an all-in-one wireless music system you can plug in anywhere. With the S5 you can play any track you like, anytime you like, in any room you like. Wirelessly play the same song in every room of the house – perfectly synchronised. Or, mix it up and play different songs in different rooms.

When it comes to controlling Sonos, simply reach into your pocket for your Android smartphone. With Sonos Controller for Android, you can search for songs and stations by typing or speaking, select the music and control the volume in as many rooms as you like. And because your Android phone is controlling the music, and not the source of it, when a text comes in or you need to make a phone call, the music doesn’t stop.

Sonos connects directly to the Internet so you can access a world of music without ever turning on your computer. Search and play more than 100,000 Internet radio stations, shows and podcasts – from around the world. Play songs, playlists and radio from the most popular music services like Deezer, Last.fm, Napster, Internet Radio, Spotify, Wolfgang’s Vault, and more. And of course, Sonos can play your entire digital music library (such as iTunes) stored on a computer or Network Attached storage drive.

The Sonos Controller for Android is designed to work on any Android smartphone running Android 2.1 or later with a screen size of HVGA 320 x 480, WVGA 480 x 800 or WVGA 480 x 854. Sonos Controller for Android joins the family of Sonos Controllers which includes free apps for iPhone and iPad, a dedicated touchscreen controller, the Sonos Controller 200, and free software for your Mac or PC, included with every ZonePlayer. All controllers work together seamlessly.

A plant that grows in the Click & Grow flowerpot does not need watering, fertilizing or any other kind of extra care. The whole process of plant growth is taken care of by the sensors, processor and special software in the pot. The intelligent Click & Grow flowerpot constantly measures all the parameters affecting the plant growth and the system software knows exactly what each plant needs. That’s why the Click & Grow flowerpot is able to grow plants with the most intricate needs. Just sit back and enjoy.

If users want to grow a new plant, they don’t have to buy a new pot, but simply switch the special plant cartridge inside. The plant cartridge has everything necessary for plant growth - seeds, nutrients and software. It’s as simple as that! Click & Grow flowerpot grows perfectly normal plants from seed by combining various cutting-edge technologies that do not use soil as a growing medium.

Every year billions of houseplants amounting to 10 billion Euros are thrown away in the US and EU because they haven’t been properly cared for. The Click & Grow flowerpot is the perfect solution for that problem.

By combining beautiful design and innovative technology Click & Grow flowerpot is the perfect product for an absentminded person, who would like to have a little green around the house.

The Government has published its plans for the rollout of smart meters across 30 million homes in Great Britain today. It’s a crucial step towards reducing emissions and energy consumption and is estimated to have a net benefit to the nation of £7.3 billion over the next twenty years.

So what does this mean for consumers? Well, we’ll have real time information on our energy consumption to help us control energy use, save money and reduce emissions (although that’s nothing new if you’re an AlertMe customer). By 2020, the average consumer (with both electricity and gas) is expected to save around £23 per year on their energy bill as a result of smart metering. There will also be an end to estimated billing as energy suppliers will have access to accurate data, allowing them to improve their customer service and reduce costs, for example by reducing call centre traffic, ending visits by meter readers, and better debt management. Finally, energy networks will have better information with which to manage and plan current activities as well as the move towards smart grids to support sustainable energy supplies.

Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Chris Huhne said:“Smart meters are a key part of giving us all more control over how we use energy at home and at work, helping us to cut out waste and save money… the rollout of smart meters will help us keep the lights on while reducing emissions and getting the best possible deal for the consumer.”

Rollout will take place in two phases. An initial ‘foundation’ stage will consult industry, consumer groups and other stakeholders to lay groundwork for the second phase of mass rollout, due to start in 2014 and expected to be completed by 2019.

Commenting on today’s announcement, Which? chief executive, Peter Vicary-Smith, said: “With some energy companies already rolling-out smart meters, it is vital that strong consumer and data protection is enforced now. Industry and the government therefore need to continue to make sure that their code of practice really does put consumer protection first.”

As the public release of iOS 4.3 approaches, we will begin to see video-related iOS apps being updated with AirPlay support. Originally intended to be included in IOS 4.2, third-party access to AirPlay APIs was pushed back until iOS 4.3. With less than a week until 4.3 is available for public download, the team over at InMethod is ahead of schedule and have Air Video ready to go the moment your iDevice reboots following the application of the upcoming iOS update.

For those who may be having a bit of déjà vu, this isn’t the hack demonstrated last year. Today’s update is the real deal, and is a free update via the App Store for current Air Video owners.

Apple has announced that iOS 4.3 will be available for iDevice owners this Friday. The OS update will add enhanced AirPlay support, third-party app AirPlay support, Nitro JavaScript, and iTunes Home Sharing for iOS.

AirPlay already allows a user to stream content from their personal computer with iTunes to an Apple TV. The upcoming iTunes Home Sharing for iOS will even provide iTunes music and movies to iDevice streaming. So, what is the point of needing an app like Air Video once 4.3 is released?

When using iTunes, you must convert all videos to an iDevice-friendly format and then add them to your iTunes Library. Neither one of those steps is impossible or even extraneously difficult nowadays, however, why do it if you don’t need to? TheAir Video Server software can convert most video formats on-the-fly.

Even if you’re like me and use software likeHandbrake, making DVD to iDevice and Apple TV conversion a single step, Air Video has the advantage of supporting multiple source locations. I keep a dozen or two top movies and videos in my iTunes Library and the rest on my external hard drive. I do this because I don’t want to clutter up my computer’s internal drive with infrequently used content, which is also not life changing if lost. In my case, I can choose both locations and have them easily accessible via the Air Video iOS app.

AirPlay support in Air Video v2.4.5 turns an iDevice into a wireless video relay. Come Friday, it will be possible to stream nearly any video from any folder on your Windows and Mac OS X computers to your Apple TV.

Air Video does support external network access, although, it isn’t as automatic as something like the temporarily unavailable ZumoCast. While ZumoCast and a few other apps have automatic remote resolution and connectivity, Air Video needs some manual configuration. The configuration may only need to be done once, making it nothing of a huge problem.

Air Video is a universal app compatible with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch running iOS 3.0 or later. Seeking requires iOS 3.1 or later and AirPlay is supported when running iOS 4.3 or later. Get your copy of Air Video in the App Store for $2.99. TheAir Video Server software is a free download for Windows and Mac OS X.
